Square filter holder/lens hood combo?

What do you mean by you "only need one adapter per size, and not one per lens."? Are all your lenses the same size? What is the same size, if not the lenses? I have 210mm and 150mm Sironars and plan to pick up a Super-Angulon 90mm. All very different filter thread sizes.

In your case it seems it won’t work but if e.g. you have 2 52mm filter size lenses then you only need 1 adapter ring. Of course if they’re all different then you’re stuck.

I use the Cokin holder (but not the filters) and stack the shades as needed.
