Square filter holder/lens hood combo?

I see Lee has one. $200 bucks and it only holds one filter? Any personal experience with these things would be great. I figure a square filter setup needs three holders; polarizer, gradual neutral density, and color filter. Maybe I just shade the lens with my hand than carry fragile and expensive lens holders.

You need to get the adapter rings separately. Works well.

Lee used to make a wide hood, which I use on 4x5 for lenses up to 300mm and it's just fine, which had 2 filter slots. They may be available used, but if you can find one, it might be for more than $200. Here's B&H's old page on it: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...Hood_Wide.html

I would not recommend buying used unless you can check it out in person. I bought one used that looked in good condition when I received it and basically broke apart in a couple of months. They’re a bit like the Harrison tents... don’t last very long.... but they carry a price tag of lasting a lifetime.... the new one attaches to the holder so you can use it if/when needed:”Working intuitively with the LEE100 Holder, the LEE100 Hood is easy to fit, water resistant and can be tilted to different angles and rotated independently from the filter holder.” It’s a far better design that the old one, but boy you pay for it....

If you are using a 'P' size holder, there is always this: https://www.srb-photographic.co.uk/b...ods-1600-c.asp from SRB Photographic in the UK. You need a slot for it to mount, but since I work exclusively in monochrome I've never felt limited.

I use the wide hood, it has slots for 2 or 3 filters, works fine. A bit pricey, but I expect I'll have it for the life of the camera, if not longer.

One thing I do wonder, do people mount the adapter rings on the lenses permanently and simply buy 100mm generic lens caps, or do you attach/detach the adapter ring each time you need it?

I mount it every time, when needed. Takes less space on my bag and I only need 1 adapter per size, not one per lens. So I keep everything on a separate pouch (adapters, filters, etc). If I think I may need it that day I put it in my bag. Otherwise stays home.

I mount a separate adapter ring to each lens and leave it permanently attached. For me, it's just one less thing to fiddle with when setting up. Lee makes (or used to make) a plastic ~100mm cap to go over the adapter ring, but they fit really poorly. Far superior are the caps offered by "The Filter Dude" http://www.thefilterdude.com/adaptercap/. They also offer less expensive alternatives to the Lee adapter rings. I have not tried those but I would imagine they are decent quality too. Downside of the Filter Dude products is they all have "Filter Dude" written on them.

What do you mean by you "only need one adapter per size, and not one per lens."? Are all your lenses the same size? What is the same size, if not the lenses? I have 210mm and 150mm Sironars and plan to pick up a Super-Angulon 90mm. All very different filter thread sizes.
