I am sure the forum does not do that automatically, but many forums using vBulletin do.

In my case no, I simply go from the tab for the forum to other tabs and sometimes when I return to the forum tab the type is blown up.

Yup, the mobile skin is what I experienced. I'm absolutely positive that I didn't inadvertently select it, having done nothing here except view my usual "last 30 days" search results. The site looked normal, I surfed elsewhere on the Web and then, just before shutting down for the evening, came back here for one last look. When it happened I even tried to find a way one might get back to the desktop "skin" but couldn't locate that lower left selection field. The next day, having changed nothing, all was back to desktop normal.

It seems that, for an unknown reason, there was one corrupt bit at that moment. I've no idea what corrupted it, but my next-day PC reboot apparently reset it.
