Intrepid 4x5 mk4 camera and wide angle lenses

Website says 80mm is the widest lens that works. I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what the widest practical setup is. Between focal to flange difference, recessed lens boards, bellows compression, and the risk of getting the bedplate in the photo I'm a little nervous about buying a lens that won't work. I'm hoping someone has experience using something wider than 90mm.

I use a Kodak Wide Field Ektar on my Intrepid 4x5 and it works nicely, but barely covers the format. No room for movements, but neither does it require a recessed board. It’s also remarkably tiny, but so sharp and capable!

    That's a 100mm lens right?

Intrepid 4x5 mk4 camera and wide angle lenses

Back a while ago, I used the mk3 successfully with a 90mm lens in a recessed board (I think 17mm). I also tried with a 75mm (also recessed) but I wasn’t able to focus at a few meters away (let alone infinity). I think 90mm (I don’t have any lens between 75 and 90mm) may be the practical limit.

Did you have any room for movements with the 90 and recessed lens board?

Honestly the few times I used it, I didn’t have to use any movements, except for a bit of front rise, which was fine. Looking at my notes from back then, I didn’t write down how much rise, though, so probably it was small (0.5” maybe?); if it’s 1” or more I usually write it down.

Noticed this video indicating that wide angle lenses (80- 90mm?) don't work without tilting the bed.

Looks pretty annoying if it's true. I ordered my camera in February and have been told it should ship this month. I've bought the needed center filter and lensboard to utilize the Schneider 80mm lens so I really hope it works.

A lot has been said about adding an additional front standard fixing point behind the existing ones to get the front and rear standard closer together. Unfortunately I don't think Intrepid offer a bag bellows option yet so bellows compression may be a problem, also if you have an amount of base board out the front you will reach a point where the camera may show in shot.

    I did this little extension.
I've even succeeded to get the Super Angulon 47mm XL to work with a 15mm recessed board. Not recommended though. Very finicky to work with and to adjust the shutter and aperture.
But for my Super Angulon 75mm it works like a charm.
