Other handheld devices to use cellphone photo apps

I'm looking to buy a tablet, notebook, chromebook or not sure what the device is. I want to be able to use it to handle photo apps that are normally on a cellphone but have a bigger footprint. Apps like those that provide DOF, preview of the viewfinder to see the view based on what lens you'll use,. Plus I want to be able to see the web and my email like is do now on my cell phone from Google and Chrome internet surfers. On-board camera. I'm not looking to do any post processing or fancy program processing like you'd need a laptop for.

So which type of device would be best? Any recommendations? Anything under $500 although I could pay more for special features?

Get a tablet that matches your cell phone meaning if you have an iPhone shop Apple

Or Android if not

I use Chrome and gmail on my Apple portables all day long but don’t like Apple/Mac computers

The trick is to time your purchase to have the darn thing as close to state of the Art before it becomes out of date

I will be buying an iPad Mini one of these days but still use tiny iPhone SE for photo apps

I drop this SE all the time but it is a good survivor. I want a Mini so it can fit in a large coat pocket and work as Maps on my car dashboard and be easier to see

Why not Android? How about HP Windows or who? Other than Apple.

Go to Best Buy or your computer store of choice and try the Android tablets. No Windows-based machines will be able to easily run apps designed for iOS/Android.

This isn't a computer forum though and I doubt many here use these types of devices for their LF photography needs, so suggestions may be limited. Personally I use an old Windows phone that I love and I hate all things Android/Apple - and eschew most any "device" while shooting film except my Pentax digital spotmeter.

This forum is heavily into computer based everything, all posts and image are digital

My D750 can operate remotely with my cell phone and is proving very good at negative copying for posting here, I want a Mini so wireless tethering is better and easier to view

I have tethered with wire also

Scanning is always digital and computer based

Lastly iOS has/had better security, better updates, and a safer closed app store than any Droid

My interpretation of the question was for something larger than a cell phone to use in the field (usability issues?). I personally have a hard time imagining bringing a big tablet along with everything else needed for LF photography.

Agree if you have good eyes. I don't. The Mini 5 is 5X8" OD which will fit in my jacket or right beside my 5X7 holders

But it's 1/2 way to obsolete and I will wait for the next one and buy as soon as it is introduced
