Re: Software rather than center filter for correcting illumination falloff?

I found trying to correct fall-off in Photoshop to be too much work. My Photoshop skills are such that the less work I have to do in Photoshop the better. I bought an expensive Schneider IIIB (?) center filter. I use it with my 55mm Apo-Grandagon, 65mm Super Angulon, and, when I had it, I used the CF on an 80mm SSXL.

The Apo Grandagons require a different density center filter then your other lenses or other Grandagon lenses.

Here is a shot with the 55mm/4.5 Apo-grandagon with the CF.

Here is a shot with the 80mm SSXL without the CF. The falloff, while mild, is still annoying.

Who has the very rare and expensive Center Filters?

What lens do you use on it on?

Will you post images made with and without on lens CF as exposed filters? (meaning no correction in post optical or PS)

and did NIKON ever sell CF for their lenses? Why not?

No, Nikon never sold center filters for their lenses. Probably because their filter supplier didn’t make them ever.

Yes, Bob. I know my CF isn't correct for the 55mm Apo-Grandagon but it's much better than no CF. And I can't justify the cost of two center filters.

Here is another shot with the 80mm SSXL with no CF. I spent a lot of time in Photoshop trying to correct the falloff and didn't fully succeed. That's too bad, it's a beautiful shot marred by falloff.

Re: Software rather than center filter for correcting illumination falloff?

Somewhere there is a post or site that compares all the center ND filters and which can be used on which lenses. Lost my bookmark, maybe someone could post the URL.

None of my center ND filters are the ones specified for my lenses, but in practice they work exceptionally well especially since I only shoot B&W LF & ULF. When I found them being offered up FS at bargain prices, I just couldn't pass up on buying them. For example my FUJI CENTER FILTER 6x617 ND-2X screws directly onto my 120mm WA Nikkor and works out excellently on my 8x10. It also (via a makeshift taped on adapter) works great with my 5.9” No. 5 Gray Periscope (lens predates the filter by easily 100 years plus) on my 11x14. Gave up on finding a 95mm Schneider IVa center filter for my 90mm SA XL... found one but the asking price was more than I paid for the lens.
