Tape for replacing film holder hinge flaps?

I'm looking for a source (Mail order preferred) for black masking tape. Or a superior product for repairing the hinge flap on film holders. Years ago I used black masking tape, at least that's what I thought it was called.

I have used bookbinding tape and also hockey tape. Both work well. (the black photo tape above does work well for patching bellows holes).

    Re: Black Masking Tape

Masking tape is for temporary usage only. It's harder nowadays to find real bookbinding tape, but, unlike gaffer's tape, ordinary duct tape, or masking tape, is designed for long-term reliability. Still, there must be something better.

    Re: Black Masking Tape

The problem with many of these cloth tapes is that they're of rather coarse fabric and can get stringey (loose strings, plus bits of adhesive getting where you don't want it). I have a big carton containing all kind of specialized tapes, including many black ones, but have never had to repair a filmholder in this manner. Gaffers tape is expressly temporary. I have a huge roll of pro black gaffers tape. I'd never consider it for anything permanent - it's not supposed to be or it wouldn't be easily removable as prescribed. Before I retired I had a direct 3M industrial account, sold Shurtape, Gorilla products too, thousands of rolls a month, bought in multiple full pallets, and none of them comes to mind as suitable in this case. Maybe true bookbinding/repair tape. It seems to last a long long time, and is made of a finer fabric, but is a bit thick. I've used Filmoplast on tents; not entirely opaque, thin but strong.

Definitely book binders tape although it does not have to be black as the tape does not accomplish the blackout.
