I agree that the image is what is important, but to me your approach sounds like a test of scanners and scanning technique. The image threads we already have concentrate on the images, and I suspect that many are curious about films and developers, few belong to this forum to learn about scanning.

Statistically speaking that would be a better number just based on the statistical math of people guessing. If enough guess, you would find something like 33% of the time someone would get it right simply from the probability curve of it happening.

If thatís the objective, itís already messed up by stating it. If itís true that the process isnít reliably detectable, then people wonít persuade themselves because of such a thread, or, if they disagree with your thesis, wonít participate in good faith.

But where the thesis breaks down is in the display. A computer display is so characteristic that it will mask the subtleties you hope to expose. Now, compare physical prints of decent size (at least 16x20) and differences will be more obvious. Maybe.

That said, you donít have to have permission to start such a thread. Just start it, making sure to follow other guidelines (eg what is large format), and state your guidelines. If itís a good idea, people will respond and everyone will enforce those guidelines. If itís an unpopular idea, the thread wonít last.

Just donít ask us to enforce your idea, please. We have enough work to do keeping up with the forum guidelines.
