    Re: Still Life 2020

Last night before bed I discovered a Luna Moth had graced our deck with its presence. I think a male. He was chilling on the screen door. I actually had an identical experience last year around the same time in the spring/summer. I love Luna Moths, ever since I was young, and would occasionally find them in my parent's backyard.

I let him be, and went to bed. This morning as I sipped some coffee I saw, sadly, the 4 wings of my Luna Moth friend on the ground. I guess a bat got him or maybe an early bird as I had just refreshed the feeder. Ants were starting to cart away the wings, when I had an idea! I would immortalize the beautiful wings by making some color photograms with them.

Here is the finished print, matted and number as I made exactly 5 copies. I might try pinning the wings in a shadow box - I've actually been thinking of buying a preserved moth since seeing one in a curio shop, to go with a pretty little woodcut of a Luna Moth I have from a local artist.

Making progress with my Van Dyke prints, a still life I took too many decades ago with my Crown Graphic. Still need to tweak the curves to get what I want but this is presentable.
