DIY darkroom sink

For those of you that are handy, this the sink I made and what steps I took. The inside dimensions of the sink is 94 1/2"x25 1/2"



I started by routing a grove with a 1/4" of pitch from one end to the drain end.



Here is the drain hole. I used a 3" hole saw bit to drill the hole then routed it deep enough for the fitting and gasket. If I need the strainer that will stick up a little, but I figured I wouldn't be using that too often.



Here is the drain fitting test fit for depth. I used a 2" shower drain which will have a 1 1/2" line and trap going to the sewer.



I used deck screws and screwed the sides every 4"

I routed both sides of the top edges just so it was smoother on the arms.



Here it is with 2 coats of fiberglass with mess around the bottom seem.



The stand with the shelf mounted and my RO water filter for the reef tank which I also use the water for when I develop.

Haha, no I can actually carry it myself. It's only made from 1 sheet of 3/4" plywood.

Really nice job.
Wood is not the first material I would think about when building a sink.
So you cover the inside with fibreglass?

Here are mine, built a number of years ago from 1/4" and 1/2" plywood and glassed. Originally two six foot sinks, I cut one down to fit in this smaller room.

You might consider having the "drain end" of the sink placed just a bit lower than the other end - so that liquids (water, rinse water, etc.) can slowly move towards the drain. Does not need to be much of a drop. For my sink (plywood/epoxy, 16ft long X 3ft wide), I've dropped by one inch from non-drain to drain end, which is just enough to allow gravity to drain the sink naturally, without solution levels in trays becoming inconveniently tilted.

I dropped a 1/4" over the 8' span. If it proves to not be enough I can shim the stand.
