    Film Holder End Flap Repair

What would be the best material to make new end flap hinges? Some sort of tape? Testing for light leaks, was thinking of loading photo paper then taking out into the light then develop. Thinking would be better than wasting a sheet of 7x17.

In a post here several years ago, Sandy King (who used to build film holders) recommended bookbinding tape and gave a source. I bought some and have used it to repair several holders. You should be able to find his recommendation in the old thread.

Book binder's tape works better than Gaffer's tape, but if Gaffer's tape is all you have----it'll work.
The hinge tape would have to be pretty bad to allow a leak, since the hinged portion of the flap should be over solid material.

The issue with using Gaffer's tape for hinges is that it takes quite a bit of use for the tape to break in to "hinge" behavior. Until then, it takes judicious holding of the flap open all the way for inserting the film, lest your language becomes colorful

I highly recommend bookbinding tape, it's acid free, thinner and more flexible than other tapes, and works wonderfully repairing bellows.

I use book binders tape when I make film holders from scratch. Nothing else I have tried works as well.
