I've used Copal, Compur, Seiko, and Ilex shutters for 40 years and I've always left 'em on whatever speed was last used. Not saying this is right, but I've never had any issues with my shutters. I do leave 'em uncocked when not in use.

In terms of storage shutter speed doesn't mean a thing. I can only advise to avoid storing your shutter cocked, especially at highest spring tension (usually 1/500 or 1/400). In older Compur-style shutters (Compur, Synchro-Compur, Moment, Seikosha, etc) there is an aditional spring which is engaged at the shortest speed. These springs actually tend to deteriorate over long periods of time.

I bought a new copal #1 and it arrived set at T. I believe the theory is you do not want to leave any spring under tension for extended periods lest they become weak. Perhaps modern materials are not so prone. So, as advised above, don't ever leave a shutter cocked and leave it set on T when stored for any length of time.

The lowest tension on the spring is at "T" or "B", uncocked. I prefer "T", ready for focusing.
