    Xenotar 150mm/2.8 cap sizes?

    Hi everyone,

Some time ago I purchased a Xenotar 150mm 2.8 mounted in a Copal 3 shutter but it unfortunately is missing the caps. I know the thread diameter on the front element is 77mm, but I still don't know what Schneider cap I need to get to perfectly fit this (as the diameter is a bit wider on the outside) nor do I know which one I need for the rear element.

The caps seem to have some kind of reference on the inside. Anyone know which ones I need to get to fit my lens?

    Many thanks in advance!

If the thread is 77mm, you'll want an 80mm push on cap.

Great, thanks! Like this one? I never really understand how sellers advertise these. Is it inside diameter of the cap or outside diameter of the cap? The rear element seems to be 63-64mm outside diameter. Would you go for a 65mm then?

If it is threaded or a snap cap it is the thread size.
If it is push on it is the front diameter of the lens.
If it is bayonet it is the bayonet size of the lens.

Bob is 100% correct, but don't assume that the seller (especially on eBay) knows that. In the past year or so wanted to get caps for all my lenses. Twice the caps were listed as "xx"mm. Both times when I received the caps, the sellers had listed the dimension of the outside diameter of the cap. Both times the sellers were not photographers, both admitted that, and I was able to return both items.
