Yes the Hobbit did popularize the word, but it is actually a real word from old English. When i was writing I started with one hundred images, but over the six years of writing it got a bit bigger and I settled on 111, although in truth there are 3 extra images, one on the frontspiece and two in the Coda.

Got my copy over a month ago, and it's wonderful. My wife loves it, too, and she doesn't like too many of my photo books.
It's obviously a labor of love for Bill, and the reader is quickly rewarded with beautiful images and insightful prose, and quite a few history lessons.
Bill's got an excellent eye for detail and an easy way of writing that keeps us reading page after page.
He not only describes the work, but often gives us some background of the photographer, the current state of affairs in North America at the time the photo was taken, what the sitter might have been thinking or feeling, and most of all, how a particular photo fits into the historical flow of photography's rich legacy.
    Fascinating and utterly absorbing.
The book is very handsomely laid out, and the photos are faithfully reprinted here, so if you haven't bought a copy yet, do it now.
    Now!

    Thanks, cowanw!

Thank you Tin Can and Ari.
Some of the images are mildly important from a historical perspective and I will be very pleased if I can make them at least a little bit available to the record.
And yes, it is a labour of love and so the production values of the book were very important to me.

I add, that the typeface and all images are very readable with my poor vision. No need for bigger anything

The dust jacket has an exquisite print on the front, done so well, I will cut it out and frame it!

I always remove dust covers as they decay so quickly, yet I want them on used books I buy...

I treat all books as treasures and never mark them up with notes, a habit I despise

3 years after moving I am still unpacking books

Awwkkk! Don't do that. I paid extra for the non skid surface.
I will mail you a print of the image.
I too have seeing troubles and sought out a readable colour and font that suited, for that reason. The worst I have ever seen was a large expensive book on Capa that had very artistic light grey type; couldn't read it to save my life.

The dust cover paper is wonderful, like suede, so very black too

I will pay postage if you send a copy

    Thank you!
