Looks ok to me. Hard to judge without seeing original. The silver tends to scan a bit hot. Dynamic range of wet plate is tighter than film too.

What are we looking at that tells you they are over-exposed? And what constitute a problem in this case? I have no practical experience with wet plate.

I can see what willie means. the flattened face has few shadows and lacks 3 dimensionality. It's possible that a bit more (or less?) exposure, that is a bit darker, might have more shadows on the face. Would an overly white face be over or under exposure with wet plate?

Wet plate has fairly narrow dynamic range and it can be hard to guess how the UV light is affecting it. Also there is a very sensitive relationship between exposure time and development time. Exposure is done by inspection and takes about 15 seconds.

Looks pretty close to me. Just very flat lighting in the shade on a very fair complexion.

Hoping he didn't do wet plates of an environmental activist in an environmentally sensitive area, then dump the chemicals on the ground...

Most of the chemicals used aren't dangerous outdoors (acetic acid, ferrous sulfate, ethanol, lots of water) and the few that could be (silver nitrate, maybe potassium cyanide instead of ammonium thiosulfate) are very dilute.

looking at the image of the image in colour, I am wondering if the scan of the wet plate wasn't lightened in reproduction.

Sodium or ammonium thiosulfate are toxic to plants. I have a two-year-old bare spot in my back yard where a student dumped a pint or less of fixer.
