    Tripods

I have a monorail camera with a 3/8 thread on the hold own bracket. Are there any tripods that could be recommended that have a 3/8 fixing screw?

Interesting question. Why don't you want to put a head -- I prefer 3-axis heads, some people prefer ball heads -- between tripod and camera?

If they don’t you could just put a good quality reducing bushing in your camera.

But most any professional quality tripod will have both ⅜ and ¼ threads availabile or both.

What is a head? Oh yeah, now I remember, it's redundant surplus weight just to help make your exposures more wobbly.

What kind of monorail? If a Sinar, then get a Sinar pan/tilt head to got with a tripod.

Yes I did think of a reducing bush, but with the weight of large format cameras I considered a 3/8 thread would be stronger

Get a good one like a Linhof or a Sinar one. Not one of those cheap ones with just a couple of threads.

The Ries are available with either. My suggestion would be a J100-2 with the J250 head and the 3/8 camera & tripod screw. If it's a Sinar, you can also use the Sinar head on the Ries or any decent tripod.

I keep on hand both thread sizes of turnbolt for my Ries J, though I primarily use the larger 3/8 size.

A head is that thing you own that used to have hair on it. As for it being redundant surplus weight, I'll just have to take your word on it, Drew.
