How to load this 8x10 Film Holder?

    Hello,
I had just purchased an 8x10 wooden film holder, Century on Ebay to fit with my 8x10 Century camera. After inspecting the holder I have had no idea how to load the film into the holder. Unfortunately I have no any exposed 8x10 negative film to let me try. This specific holder, Century couldn't be opened at the bottom like other modern film holders which the film could be inserted at the bottom of holder. Please advise. Thank you very much.

This looks like a glass plate holder and not a film holder.

Thanks for your input. I thought it'd be working with my 8x10 Century camera. Any idea what kind of film holder is going to fit this one? Click image for larger version.

Yep - it's a plate holder. Older wooden film holders look outwardly similar to plate holders, except for the flap at one end and the film guide rails on the sides. These were also marked Century, Eastman, Graflex, etc.
Newer plastic film holders were made by Riteway, Fidelity and Lisco
These are all standard film holders and should work with your camera.

If you decide to sell your plate holder, you should easily be able to find a buyer for it. Plenty of folks here on the LF forum and Photrio are shooting dry plates.

Some plate holders are spring loaded, others have sliding clips to retain the glass.

It's good to practice loading any holder with glass or film in light. Then with eyes closed and finally in full dark.

However most glass plate emulsions can be loaded under a 'safe' light. But not most film.

If you have an 8X10 picture frame with glass, most likely that glass could be used for practice.

If in USA many stores sell 8X10 glass for frames. I buy at Home Depot or Art stores.

Also cut your own. Glass photographic plates are usually 2 mm or thinner.

I had an old wood 8x10 that could use standard film holders: Lisco, Fidelity, Graflex etc. What does the rear of the camera look like? does it have a spring clamp system for holding a film or plate holder? My 8x10 holders (fidelity elite) are 9 1/4" x about 10 3/4" (to the light seal lip) and 12 1/16" overall.
