Also if you go back, and haven't been yet – the Carnavalet Museum has an amazing collection of Atget and Marville photos as well as more recent people who have made before and after works, you have to make an appointment but def worth a look.

I was also traveling in Europe with a bird box and holders in my pack during that heatwave last month – brutal...
Unfortunately the museum was under a massive renovation and is closed until I believe 2020. I stayed a few blocks from the museum, I knew it would be closed going into the trip so I was mentally prepared.

Looks like the "Tree of Tortured Souls". Like an arboreal catacomb. But more creepy.
    Maybe a cubist nightmare.
    Very cool!

The interesting element that I found after the trip is that 1/2 the work was an exercise in rephotographing , the other 1/2 were pictures that were in some ways inspired by or in conversation with Atget. The spiral staircase from Versailles was one such picture and it wasn’t until after I came home that I later found that Atget had photographed that location. That’s a moment of serendipity.

Another picture in conversation with Atget. I found myself interested in the mix of old and new, of street art and the detritus of advertisements with classic Parisian architecture.
