    Prontor magnetic e/100 shutter

    hi all,
i want to build a shutter controller for above.
the shutter will go in a 8x10 camera, fitted with flash sync, so i can use all
those nice barrel lenses, but especially the cooke knuckler and my petzvals, with flash, or without.

i have searched the net for days to find the specs- voltage to open, maintain open, t speed for opening and closing, max amp for solenoid etc- to no avail.

    can anybody help me out?
    much appreciated

    TC

    thnx Bob,
    that would be schneideroptics.com

on their site they only spec the e/40 under discontinued

You apply 30V between pin 1 and 2 to open. Min pulse width is 18ms, this is near 1/50 but the effective exposure will be shorter because of the ramps, see graph in the datasheet.

Afte 50ms, if still wanting the shutter open, voltage has to drop to 3V to hold the shutter open and while not reheating the coils inside, so you use 30V for fast action but that voltage has to be lowered to 3V after 50ms.

Basicly your controller can be implemented with two timers in parallel, say A and B, you always fire both at same time.

Timer A: Throws 30V and has a fixed 18ms duration

Timer B: Throws 3V, duration for the exposure you want + some 10ms to compensate openning/closing time. It may require a diode in the output to prevent the 3V output be destroyed by the 30V of the A timer.

If you want it only for flash then a single 20ms 30V pulse will do the trick, controller itself can trigger the flashes just after 10ms.

For that project you may use industrial timers, an arduino or cheap chinese ebay timers, in that case you should take one that is able to adjust milliseconds and that it has a low latency.

No, Schneider and Rodenstock were suppliers. Prontor Werke is the manufacturer.

    hi pere,

    thnx for the diode tip!

your links are for the prontor magnetic 0, not the e/100.
the magnetic 0 wants 30v, the e/40 for example only 24v.
    see link https://www.schneideroptics.com/pdfs...ifications.pdf

so i am guessing the e/100 might be different too...

    Bob,

Prontor is part of Hittech.com now, in Calmbach Germany
the original company Prontor Werk Alfred Gaulthier is done, but Hittech is located on the Gaultierstrasse.
    just fyi, thought thats noteworthy...

    true...

If finally you cannot find specs that may experimented. I'd try with a some 20 to 40ms pulses and for each pulse width I'd be raising voltage until I'd have a consistent opening, then with shutter open I'd find what voltage keeps the shutter open...

But of course it would be better if you find specs.

    Re: Prontor magnetic e/100 shutter

    Hi all,

well just as a short info - I mailed Prontor in Germany about the E100 datasheet.
After a week i got the response: "we have searched our archives and could only find the following datasheet on the E40 shutter."

so after years of producing this shutter, any history is just wiped away.
    Nice work Prontor!
