    Lubricant for lens thread

My two lenses are probably a bit too old and the filter holder thread doesn't fit in very smoothly (makes noise sometime). Are there any recommended products to make things better?

I wouldn't use anything that can get into the lens, or on the glass (e.g., oil, grease). Some people use a bit of graphite but I'd avoid that too honestly.

Have you used a blower and a brush to clean out the threads? Are you sure it's not the filters themselves? You could also check if they've been deformed, or if the filter ring is bent or dented. It's surprisingly easy to fix a dented or bent filter ring.

What are the mount of the filter and the rim of the lens made of? If they are the same material then that alone can cause binding.

The two lenses are Schneider and Nikon. The filter holder is a brand new Formatt Hitech.

On the outside both lenses seem just fine. But I hear a grinding noise when screwing the holder adaptor.

Upon checking, I think it might be the adaptor ring by Formatt Hitech (the Schneider CF filter fits perfectly). Would it be safe to lubricate that just slightly?

Probably. I use a tiny bit of wax. If I don't, I've had filters stick, including very expensive ones in brass rings. I've learned to carry filter wrenches in my kit when I use my Fuji rangefinders, as the mounting threads are recessed, and it's otherwise hard to get a grip.

A dry Teflon lube could be put on the threads of the filter holder.

I also use a little beeswax mixed with olive oil. But first I make sure to clean both the male and female parts' threads with lighter fluid.

Dry teflon, but better a high quality one.

Not all products are the same.

Got some nice lube from Carol when I had some shutters lubed and adjusted. I use a toothpick and put on a tiny amount, & work it into the threads. Call me crazy, but I do something similar with car parts re-installation....just different lube. Anyway, it's easy to undo next time around.
