Re: The Setup and the Shot

The two main challenges on this day were a steady wind somewhere in the 20mph region and very low cloud base. I am setup on a high ground / ridge where I managed to find a small area of lee created by an edge of the ridge, the camera is as far right and high as was possible to keep it out of the wind, which is blowing in the direction from about the left centre of the image to the right bottom corner. In any case, the centre hook on the tripod is anchored with a bit of parador to a heavy stone (I find paracord useful this way, it has enough of an elasticity to be able to properly tension it).

The edge of the ridge severely restricted the view to this single shot (I did a recce a day before for a shot which unfortunately would have been directly into the wind, some other time). The cloud had occasional brief gaps in it which I could see in the distance, but I needed two consecutive breaks just so that I would get a clear view from the camera and at the same time there was a gap in the cloud in front of the low sun. I spend a couple of hours there, and managed to get two of them.

The first image is actually a 3s video if you click it through to Flickr, it gives a better idea of the conditions.

The camera is Intrepid MK4 with S-K Symmar-S 180/5.6 lens. Shot on Foma 100, developed in PyrocatHD 1+1+100 for 12min.
