What is the worst piece of large format gear?

The thin, flimsy, and nearly useless lens caps that the major lens manufacturers put on their superlative and expensive glass. However, a moth flying dead straight at full speed *might be* stopped by one of these. But I don't have a moth problem in my LF pack.

ArcaSwiss long bellows for 4x5. Gravity will cause the bellows to hang down into the light path and crop the image. Nothing like clipping some bent wire on the monorail to support the bellows. Functional beauty at its best ... not.

    concur on darkcloth and lenscap.

I think lens shades are the poorest engineered piece and therefore the least used. Wish I had a good ONE, that worked for all conditions. I'd even go for a simple 'french flag'.

Cable releases that loose themselves in the grass or rocks. Why can't they be fourescent red so they are never left behind.

The Linhof Technikardan camera I owned for about six months. Things like cable releases, lens caps, and lens shades can certainly be irritants but at least they don't cost $2,800.

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you do criticize them you'll be
a mile away and you'll have their shoes.

    Two:

    1) the standard PC flash connection, and

    2) the standard cable release socket.

Someone should have been able to invent improvements there.
