Unfortunately, the person/entity receiving the donation cannot do the appraisal, so Don cannot appraise donations to Central Camera. Also, CC is not a non-profit (at least officially).

BTW, On Sunday, I sent in a list of my excess equipment to CC as a donation. I have not heard back yet.

Maybe reverse shoplifting? "I don't know what happened officer! I heard a funny noise and by the time I got to the counter there was a pristine Nikon F in a basket, wrapped in a baby blanket!

The Chicago ABC TV station had a nice piece on Central Camera in last night’s news. They reported than Don plans to open a temporary store next door (in the former Kramer’s Health Foods) by the end of October. The old location is now completely gutted and cleaned out in preparation for reopening at a later date.

    Great news!

That ‘health’ food store was very odd

Re: Central Camera Chicago & Ilford NEWS

The story of how Central Camera burned down is well known. I live close and have watched with delight as they have resurected from the ashes. It is back to having that feeling I loved of LOTS OF STUFF and knowledable staff in a temp spot next door to their location on Wabash Street in Chicago. Meanwhile, the reconstrction of original shop continues.

    Re: Central Camera, Chicago

I am extremely pleased to see that CC plans to reopen in October. In 1942 at the age of 13, i rode the train from Nashville to Chicago specifically to go to Central Camera. It was a wonderful experience for a 13 year old. i was treated like I was an adult. at 92 it is one of my favorite memories.
