Chamonix question: what is 'asymmetrical tilt of the rear standard?'

Looking to the Chamonix C45F-2 for design inspiration for my next DIY camera project. The Chamonix website http://https://www.jobo.com/en/chamo...5?ecms_lang=EN describes 'asymmetrical tilt of the rear standard' and the rear standard appears to pivot opposite to what I would expect. It looks like center of rotation is the center of the focus side of the ground glass--in other words, it functions like axial tilt on a monorail camera, but still folds like a field camera with base tilt.

Do I have that right? Is that what is meant by asymmetric tilt? Or is there something else I'm not seeing?

No. Asymmetric tilt is what was pioneered with the Sinar P cameras. The tilt revolves around a line at the film plane. In Sinar's case, this is about 1/4th of the way up the ground glass. This allows you to focus at the point and then tilt until other areas of the ground glass are in focus, and the tilt won't change the focus at the original point. The idea is to make setting tilt faster than the traditional focus, tilt, refocus, tilt.....method.

Providing that the tilt points lie on the line on the gg. If not then you have to raise or lower the back till those points are on the lines.
Linhof took a different approach and had continuously variable points on the gg to do the same thing. Sinar sued
Linhof for patent infringement as the continuously variable points included the points Sinar used. The German courts then agreed with Sinar and Linhof had to discontinue the Kardan L cameras.

Once the patent expired Linhof then introduced the GTL series with the continuously variable points, center and base tilts, telescoping monorail, yaw free and a multi magnification DOF calculator.

But it was too little, too late and too heavy!

Horseman also had Variable Axis Tilt on some models of their L45 series monorail cameras.

Thanks, Peter, for the link and the explanation of where the Sinar axis is. That makes sense, and helps to figure out a design. Looking more carefully at the Chamonix pictures, it appears the axis on that camera is also about 1/4 up from the bottom of the gg, not on the center.

Thanks, Bob and Kumar, for the discussion of the other cameras--continuously variable points sounds like a DIY challenge for another day.
