    sinar norma 5x7 back question

Here is a photo of a 5x7 back that has 2 plate holder extensions. the issue is when placed vertically it interferes with the slide lock and it prevents the back from seating into the rear frame properly. I was going to just grind it off but thought there might be something that I don't know and one of you may know... Thanks for any thoughts

You don’t need the “slide locks” to attach the 5x7 back either horizontally or vertically. There are two “pinch locks” on either side of the back that will lock the back to the frame either vertically or horizontally.

    Mine doesn't have this extensions.
Yours look to be an older, special purpose design. It should have any benefit.

Wait... at a first sight, I think it could be a former lifting method for easier holder insertion. If so, it is very convenient to keep it.
Beware, mine also interfere with the accesory lock in vertical position. Just keep the accessory lock open (it doesn't need to be closed, the back is actually held by the pinch locks Keith mentions). It may look like the tab is in touch with the holder rail but by a micron... it should't interfere at all.

Yes thanks for your help. Even with the slide lock open it still prevents the vertical choice because the back wont seat onto the camera... I have to pinch-lock it in vertically then squeeze the assembly together and then I hear the pinch-lock click into place, but not enough clearance to seat. I think its grinder time!

I would precede slowly. You cannot reverse removal and could damage a valuable camera forever. Your pix are not clear enough to tell anything, but it sounds like you are not seating the back properly.

solved by simply removing the not needed slide lock!
