    Nikkor 900mm f9 question

I found this lens in near mint condition for sale. The seller wants $3000 for it.

I know the 890 f11 goes for about half of that, but does anyone have info about this lens or the value of this lens?

    Thank you

Per Dan Fromm's writeup (http://www.galerie-photo.com/apo-pro...ikkors-en.html) the 900/9 Apo-Nikkor is a tessar-type process lens with 37 degrees of coverage.

Per Forum guidelines, valuation requests are not allowed.

I am not giving you valuation but some observations I have made over time.

I tried to look up the historical sale information of this lens and did not find it. This means that this lens does not come up very often and in such cases the seller can ask anything.

If you do not have any personal observations about the value then I would be very careful in such situations.

Naturally it comes down to the question "do I really need this?". Does one extra stop and +10mm give you desired advantage or perhaps not?

    Nikkor 900mm f9 question

Lower down in this post is a bunch of data on long process lenses. I would suspect the f9 has less coverage than the f11 despite the slightly longer focal length. Nikon process lenses tend to be pretty heavy and large in girth compared to the competition. They would not be my first choice for that reason. https://www.angusparkerphoto.com/blo...ndations-14x17

A Tessar can have both an smoother or a harsher bokeh, for example Commercial Ektar and Nikon M both are Tessars, but the "good" (smooth) bokeh is in the Commercial.

...so check images posted around (some in flickr) so see what lens suits your taste (you may want a harsk bokeh...)

Try to find a 35" Red Dot artar or a 890 Apo Ronar, save a lot of money, carry a much ligther lens and be happy.

Agreed. The 35” RDA is a great option. Even fits in a Compound # 5 shutter if you have SK Grimes do the machining for you.
