What happens if you look in a mirror and say "ebay" three times?
"I love my Verito lens, but I always have to sharpen everything in Photoshop..."
Well, I tried it, and some guy who looked like Michael Keaton in a striped suit appeared in a puff of smoke and sold me a "rare and valuable, Dallmeyer?" Petzval lens that turned out to be an un-named Rapid Rectilinear missing the back element...
"I love my Verito lens, but I always have to sharpen everything in Photoshop..."
Missing the back element isn’t always that rare.
When we took over the distribution of Rodenstock from Berkey we took over all of the inventory that Berkey had. I had the job of opening each and every lens and inspecting them, neither we or the factory trusted Berkey’s description of the lenses. We found several with fingerprints on the front, rear and sometimes on the back element when the group was unscrewed from the shutter. All of these were sent to the factory.
But then I found a boxed 360 Sironar N MC whose box was markedly lighter then the other 360s. Opening the box I found a Copal 3 shutter with the front group in the front of the shutter and nothing in back! The entire rear group was missing!
Then there was also a 210 Sironar N MC with a 180mm rear group in the shutter boxed and packages as a 210!
Both of these were also returned to the factory. It was a very interesting 2 days!
What? You still here?
