    Re: Service an Ilex shutter?

Obviously sending the shutter to Flutot is an excellent idea, but 1) I’m not interested in waiting 2-4 months to get it back, and 2) I’m capable of servicing it myself (I’ve done a dozen Compur shutters of various vintages), but I’d like to find a service manual or tutorial so that I don’t go at it blind.

PS: I’ve just found this: https://pheugo.com/cameras/index.php?page=acme2

Well, if you can do it yourself, go for it. No idea how much of a backup Carol has. Thanks for sharing the link.

Look at the SK Grimes site and see if they still have their Ilex shutter pictures up. I know they no longer service those shutters.

Some of the old Valera Camera Repair manuals/course materials offer illustrated, step-by-step repair instructions for many shutter types.

These suface occasionally on the auction site.

I asked a similar query of apug (www.photrio.com) under Forum -> Large Format Camera & Accessories ->>> Ilex Shutter Queries.
I got a lot of answers - it might be worth you looking at the thread.
As an aside be careful of the hair spring on the delay mechanism as it is almost invisible and comes off easily.

    regards

Thank you very much, Tony! There is a lot of good information to be had there. I’ll study it more closely this afternoon.

I have all my LF shutters serviced by Mike Hakeem at Professional Camera Repair here in Houston.

An informal group of camera collectors/shooters meet there every month on the second
Saturdsy st 10 M. Walk-ins welcome. Come and talk about cameras and drink coffee.

There are only three types of mounting flanges; too big, too small and wrong thread!

Blades should only be done with alcohol, not lighter fluid.
