Process: a short film about large format photography by Will Campbell

“Process” is a 3-minute short film by Will Campbell that takes a quick look into the mind and motivations of a large format photographer. Given its short length, it doesn't go into any great depth but is worth a look. You can view it here: https://uncertainmag.com/process-sho...will-campbell/

Nice film. Where is the line drawn on format? The camera is large format, but that's medium format film he's shooting, processing and printing.

Obviously created for people who know nothing about large format photography, and won't gain any insight from this...

Pieter, it's true the film shows him shooting MF with a roll film adapter on the back of his view camera, but he's also a LF photographer. You might have noticed the larger developing tanks in his darkroom.

Djdister, as I said in the original post, it's only three minutes long so it doesn't go into any great depth. But who knows; it might open the door to someone's curiosity about LF. I liked what he has to say about being present, being totally absorbed by the process, problem solving, being responsible for everything in crafting an image; having fun while making your own developers and paper emulsions. These are things we all take for granted, but it might be new to someone who hasn't ever shot LF film.

The problem I have with the film is it is too superficial, and would mislead a neophyte about what LF really entails and what the possibilities are. Nice production value, needs to be longer to really be meaningful.

Interesting video about Mann's work... Did you see The Atlantic's profile a few years ago in which she discussed the stalker that followed her?
