    long focusing loupes?

Keep coming across some long focusing loupes up at auction. Horseman and Wista brands and maybe a third brand. What is the advantage for using these long tubular loupes over common shorter loupes?
    thanks

I just find them easier to use. My camera has a pop-out viewing hood. I don't use it all the time, but when I do the long loupe lets me avoid hitting the hood with my face! Even under the dark cloth I like the distance. It's a personal preference.

Or if you have a nose like Jimmy Durante.

Like rdeloe says. Try using a short loupe on a Speed or Crown Graphic with the viewing hood extended.

You don't have to swing the viewing hood out of the way.

Right! I have a long Wista loupe and the camera's back shield would interfere without it. I also have a Silvestri with the optional pivoting front piece that replaces the normal loupe hood so we can examine corners. Unfortunately the Silvestri is so tiny, so short it cannot be used under a hood. Quite disappointing.
