Art Institute Chicago Conserving Photographs Exhibition

In progress ending in April. https://www.artic.edu/exhibitions/91...ng-photographs

I just saw a PBS News Hour video with the head photograph curator/preservationist.

Can't find the link yet, but it was very informative.

B&W is stored at one temp and Color at another.

    Touchup of damages was shown.

Go to the exhibit and shoot a series of photos on it.

Sorry I missed copying TV show. Could have put it on YT. Or is it already online somewhere? Would like to see it.

    Thanks, Randy.

I learned of this today. Interesting and informative, indeed. Hugh Edwards (http://media.artic.edu/edwards/ ) would be pleased that the works he collected for the AIC are being properly preserved.

The difference in the two prints of the same color photo by Joel Meyerowitz was shocking.

Yes, quite interesting, especially since they made a special exhibit out of the conservation theme. The old Ektacolor 74 RC prints that Meyerowitz and numerous others used in the 70's was an infamously fugitive medium. Those prints really need to be hermetically sealed and kept frozen. But overall, it must be a wonderful collection.

I hope nobody is advocating copyright violation in this thread. That would violate the guidelines, and nobody wants to do that. Right?

    Right!

ARTIC usually, but not always allows handheld camera usage without flash. Been there 100's of times. Publication is never advised of any copy or emulation.

I cannot get there before it closes and would not post any pics here regardless. I usually don't copy Art as I prefer the experience IRL.

I read the bad advice in post 2 and ignored it.

Yes, much better to have it lost in history.

Somehow, I doubt that is likely.

But that really wasn’t my point.
