3d printed 4x5 and 5x7 inserts for Paterson daylight tanks.

Experiments with 3d printed 4x5 and 5x7 sheet film inserts for the Paterson development tanks. Single slot for each sheet of film, similar to the method used on the Jobo Expert drums, but folded as the Taco method due to limited space. First run with the 31 year old 4x5 film in both the 2 reel and 3 reel tanks is quite promising, but will test several more runs and with fresh film, before I try my Ilford HP5+ portrait shoots in the inserts :-) 3d files are here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3436830

thats a really nice toco method with a great improvement in cells. very cool... i want one now..

Does that mean, that the blue inserts were 5x7....nothing indicates which color is which. Looks promising, tho. Which tanks was this suppose to fit into ?

Oooops, just spotted that the 3-reel tank would work. To me the color is inconsequential....don't see it in the darkroom anyway.

How do you do the math of the cost of materials vs amount of too much/excess developer? I assume the filament is cheap, and also the developer, but If 3 or 4 taco film holders are made, it could be a cost question?

The only math I have done so far, was to calculate how much volume is required for Xtol 1+1 development, and for 5 sheets 4x5 thats 500ml total (50ml stock Xtol pr 4x5 sheet). When I tested it, I was able to fill in a bit more than 1 liter, i.e. More than sufficient to properly develop the 5 sheets. Now if you what to minimize the fluids, it could be done by designing a insert with as you suggest less film slots and generally increase the volume of the insert.

Filament is as you say cheap, around 20 Euro for a spool with 330m. The Insert requires less than 80m

To clarify is the one for the 2 reel tank the one that is shaped like a star, and it holds 4 tacos? And can I use that one with the native lid?
