Thread: February portraits 2019

    Re: February portraits 2019

Not sure when I will be able to scan these so unfortunately these are just phone photos of the negatives. The dark blotches are from the ceiling light reflecting off the plastic negative sleeve. I also walked the wife through how to shoot a portrait of myself. It went well until I said to pull the spring back down to insert the film holder. Well, she pulled it DOWN and off the camera hahahahaha. Luckily all I had to do was reset the springs and it was good to go

Cool look. Is this one of the opaque projector triplets? I just got a Beseler 22" for 11x14 portraits. I've made a few shots and hope to experiment more this weekend.

Amazing Nice work with the DOF wide open!

Thanks Hugo! Love my Chamonix cameras. They are a perfect combination of movements, weight, and ease of use.

Yes. It is from an opaque projector. Got another one still in the projector that I haven't pulled out yet. My 18" lens easily covers 20x20. With the 22" you may run out of bellows for close portraits on 11x14. Wish I could stop this lens down a bit.

Thanks. I have seen almost nothing with these. Maybe I should start a thread. I'm getting by with my 42" of extension for 1:1. My Beseler seems to be about 21" actual focal length, plus sticks out a bit of course. I have to have the standards almost off the rails to get there with my 24" Aero Ektar. This is about an ideal focal length for 1:1 for me. Shorter FL starts to look a little weird that close. I'll try to post a shot later. Yours looks maybe sharper, but I'm actually trying to knock the sharpness down a bit for this close. Aperture would be nice, but I like the look of yours open. You could try a simple front aperture. Mine comes in about f5. Probably the same barrel.

Kurt Moser uses the same lens I have. (https://www.lightcatcher.it/en/) I have seen a few others mention that they have one but haven't seen too many examples other than Kurt. He is shooting 20x20 plates greater than 1:1. Sharpness gets really limited at 1:1 because virtually nothing is in focus due to the shallow DOF. I am shooting some close portraits over the weekend. I'll post one if anything is worthy. Looking forward to seeing your results as well.

I have no models, so I have to take selfies. Here is my February contribution. It was taken with the Intrepid 4x5 Mk II, Fujinon 180/5.6, air pump shutter cabe, 1 strobe about 6 feet away. Film is Arista Ultra Edu 400, developed in Rodinal.
