Re: Poll 2019: Age at last birthday

Last birthday was a measly 23 for me. I got into large format in what I felt like was a natural progression. Started with my dad's old 35mm camera, then found myself a Pentax 67ii, then the fateful day where I saw a beautiful Graphic View at a Swap Meet. I snatched it up, not even knowing where the film went! Much internet research and one workshop later, I feel like I've come a long way in the short 3 years. I love the process! I have abandoned smaller formats and now I shoot exclusively black and white large format (as far as film is concerned!). I've also since retired the old graphic view, she was tired having started in 1943. I'm smitten with my new (to me) Cambo SCRii.

career st/ages, commitment profile, such as:
    emerging 20-40
    mid career 35 -50
    established 45-65
    late. /// also unknown

finer resolution doesn’t provide better decision awareness.

Hi jen: Are you doing a market study, or just wanted to learn? Can you ask for the gender to see the results?#me too would like to know. I only know of couple of ladies who carry a LF camera. I think my first interest in knowing the age was too see if there are actions the "more senior" photographers can do to keep the younger ones on track. They will be carrying the legacy of film and maybe making film use grow, just like Max, of The Intrepid Co. I am going to contribute to your question and survey by adding more information: I am......
    1) Retired (after being retired, I would like to think that I am no longer anything, but a happy camper if keep my health, few buck for eating, and my other half.)
    2) I have done weddings (photography) and also as officiant.
    3) Engineer/Scientist
    4) Painter (water color, oil, acrylic)
    5) TV spokesperson
    6) Father
    7) Politician
    8) Luthier
    9) Soldier, etc.
    10) In summary: jack of all trades, master of none.

Re: Poll 2019: Age at last birthday

There was an old, long-running thread (started about 2000) titled "How old are we?" and I did a quick statistical study of its data in 2014.

The average age was about 49 years old.

This current poll suggests today's crowd, on average, is much grayer now than it was in 2014.

Turned 63 last November. I have been shooting LF for 3.5 years now. So much learned, so much to learn. Can’t wait to retire and call myself a photographer.

Younger photographers don’t use internet forums to share information near as much as older folks...they are on FB and IG. So the results of the survey should only be used to infer who uses the forums, and not who shoots large format..
Newly made large format dry plates available! Look:

Very hard to prove by this survey.

Right now we have '90 members and 653 guests' and it is obvious there are always far more guests.

We will never know if your hypothesis is true.

Google may know as everything we discuss shows up in ads.

Amen, Randy. My wife looked at bicycles from WalMart on her phone Friday. When I went to FB on my Kindle Saturday, the first ad that popped up showed bicycles from WalMart.

There is one other choice for "Other" besides Under 18. I am 61 and just voted as Other. The category boundaries of "46 to 60" and "over 61" do not include 61. Thanks to Duolab123 for pointing out the category choices first.

I started large format photography (4 by 5) about 5 years ago. Nearly all of this is professional. I have been using film since about 1967, mostly 35 mm and for fun.

    Anyone who's 61 shouldn't feel left out!

After all, the moment your 61st birthday arrived, you were, technically, over 61, and already into your 62nd year.

So checking "over 61" covers you if you'd like to think about it this way.
