Have you ever had a similar experience at Facebook?

On January 28, I made a black and white print from a 4x5 negative, scanned it, and uploaded it on my page at Facebook and Flickers. A few hours later, the quality of the digital photo at Facebook went down. You'll see an obvious difference if you compare it with the same photo at Flickers.com.

I don't understand why the quality of the photo at Facebook went down. Did this happen based on Facebook's policy? Or, did it happen because someone illegally accessed my page and tampered with the photo? Have you ever had a similar experience at Facebook?

    P.S.

The photo I uploaded on this page is same as the one at Facebook.

It is probably their compression to reduce the file size so it loads quicker. Download the image and compare the size to confirm

They do unpleasant stuff with compression. Many subtle or finely detailed photos look very different on FB. I think FB preserved your detail very well, but the tones are slightly different. Flickr on the other hand gently sharpens images but it's predictable and mild. Just don't add any sharpening before uploading.

If you upload a picture, they compress it strongly, making it less than before. The solution is to put it on a photo website like Flickr, then LINK to it in facebook.

If you want to see change, take a large format photo and upload it to Instagram.

If you set the bar really really really low you won't be disappointed !

Flickr also whacks the image by applying some kind of sharpening and by oversaturating it if color. B/W just gets crispied with after the fact sharpening. Even Zenfolio images are altered from what we upload. Trying to figure out how to not have this happen.
