No processing at all from me (time is money) after a drum scan, great shadow detail included.
All choices have advantages and drawbacks, including cost, but drum scanning also requires manpower, and the image enhancing that drum makes automaticly it can be made with third party image enhancing software if the flatbed not does it.

No doubt that drums are the best scanners by far, another thing is when that makes difference or not. In a traffic jam a Ferrari has same acceleration, top speed and down force than a Fiat, but not in Assen. So it depends on the situation.
