Epson K3 ink shortage

Hi,

Haven't been doing much printing so its been a few months since I visited the bay looking for genuine ink for my Epson 3800. In the past you could pick up a genuine 80ml ink cartridge for about £35 fairly easily, but now there seems to be hardly anything?!

Is K3 ink being phased out in favor of the new Epson HD/HDR/XD inks?

Has anybody tried extracting the the new HD/HDR/XD ink and using it in an older 3800/3880 printer?

I have the R3880 and buy all my Genuine ink from eBuyer.com. The HD from my understanding is not compatible with the 3800/3880 print heads

I have no trouble ordering ink from Epson directly, or a website "123inkt" in Holland.
