    HC-110 help or opinions

Asking to see opinions on best dilution for HC-110 concentrate for Paterson tank with mod 54 insert.
I've used HC-110 in the past for trays and have used sprint lately for the Paterson tank. Some of the info provided seems confusing.
Any suggestions or info would be great, Thanks!

I'd use dilution H, which is dilution B cut 1:1 with water. Dilution B gives a pretty short development time and can make images with too much contrast.

I can see what Peter means with dilution B, but I only experienced that with 35mm. With 4x5” B is perfect for me: for TriX then. Btw, what film are we talking about?

I used HC-110 in a one shot 1+49 solution with my combiplan because it made it simple to mix up 1 litre of developer with no waste. I just used the dilution E development times and added a little time. I have since gone to Xtol 1+1 because I think you get more speed out of the film than you do with HC-110 and it gives slightly better negatives.

HC-110 is interesting for a continuous agitation process because contrast control can be obtained from concentration. In continous agitation it's clear that agitation is not a control factor, so in that situation using a developer that can vary tonality from concetration may be a plus.

Usually for Zone System like N+/- metering/processing a particular HC-110 concentration is used depending on the N, google: HC-110 contrast control , for plenty information, graphs and opinions on that.

Also see this video, at the end it shows a Mod45 alternative https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSvQh17SxkE

Nice beginner developer for scenes with low to medium contrast (SBR). Once I found Pyrocat for sheet films, HC110 became relegated to roll film developer only, and diluted 1:63.
The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

If you haven't seen this info, yet, you may wish to review: http://www.covingtoninnovations.com/hc110/

I've used HC-110 for nearly 40 years, mostly with Tri-X, in roll and sheet films up to 8x10. It's a perfectly good developer; nothing magical, though. Since I started using a Jobo many years ago and most of the year I'm developing at temps >20C, I tend to use dil H (1:63). If you use it, just make sure you have about 6ml of syrup per 4x 4x5 or 1x 8x10.
