1972 Master Technika fresnel lens placement...

Cleaning the ground glass on the Technika today and noticed the fresnel is in front of the GG. The original owner is not around to ask so I will ask here...

What is the proper way to mount the fresnel in my camera?

    the way it was:
fresnel first grooves toward lens, GG frosted side to lens (I know this is the proper way round) screw on side clips holding it in... no shims present...

The instructions that come with the current model Technikas (mine is 1972) have GG alone under clips and fresnel above with little side tabs... (mine has no little side tabs nor is the screw long enough to accommodate one so I assume this is new to the current models...)

Under the gg unless you have a service center reposition the gg and sell you a set of gg clips which come with the proper screw.

In either case grooved side faces the lens.

The clips that were used on cameras from your era were not swing away silver tabs. They were spring loaded black lift up clips that also mounted to the middle hold down screw. They were sold as an accessory.
With the swing away tabs they were discontinued and the silver tabs were factory installed as a standard part of the camera.

Are you sure of the date and model? Yours does have the lift up flap on top?

    Thanks Bob!

It does have the top flap, sn6411143 possibly among the earliest of the Masters.

    Ok got it solved!

The fresnel is not as wide as the GG and sits deeper than the GG.

In my photo you can just see a second line inside the silver line that the GG rests on this line is lower and narrower than the GG lines.

So at least for my early Master the fresnel fits in front of the GG. The newer Masters seem better with the little clips, at least you can remove it easily if desired...

Thanks Bob! Thats pretty neat! Wonder how many in that first "batch"... I read somewhere that the Master production began in Sep 1972... I was almost 2 years old then but I don't remember so much of that time...
