Jim, those pesky elves have been at it again - looks like they have made off with your image
What is "shorpy"?
” Never attribute to inspiration that which can be adequately explained by delusion”.
Probably an unsound idea. So many pics there it might be fun to share for 80 years ago inspiration, but perhaps they don't want their pics shared outside their site. Mods, maybe take this thread down?

Seems it's a vintage photographic archive, which I'd never heard of.
Thanks Jim, and I wouldn't apologise for posting, as it's an interesting site.
It's good when someone takes the time to be genuinely helpful to other members.
The image shows up if you wait long enough, because it's a massive image (the forum resizes it too). Do they provide automatically resized images like Flickr I wonder? Cool photo though. They have a watermark so it is clear from where the image comes from and it is surely under public domain as well, hence being on shorpy, loc, etc.
I visited Ausable Chasm back in the early 70's as a revisit to the Adirondacks and Vermont trip my family took us on as youngsters. Here's the Shorpy link:

If you believe you can, or you believe you can't... you're right.
First, I'm going to move this to "On Photography" as the image-sharing subforums are really for sharing the pictures we make.
I think it's OK to link to pictures on other sites so long as posters adhere to any stated usage rules and have something to say about the pictures they share and why they find them interesting, so that it's truly commentary and discussion about photography rather than just pointing to or replicating the other site's content.
Of course it's always OK to draw attention to the resource itself, so that people can bookmark and follow it per their own interest.
In that vein I'd like to mention the photograph collections at the Library of Congress:
http://www.loc.gov/pictures/
Shorpy's acknowledges that they draw a substantial amount of their posted material from the LOC. The LOC also has the advantage that unlike at Shorpy's, the pictures are well-annotated, and you can generally see which ones were captured in large format and are within our scope.
So let's leave the thread open for now and see how it goes.
