I came across the book in London a few months ago and it is one of the most enlightening books on photography I have a ever read. I learned so much about her work, the background to her life, her family, her techniques; superb, informed writing putting everything in context and great images too. If you can't get to the exhibition do get the book. I look forward to seeing it sometime next year.

The best photography exhibit I've ever seen. Prints are considerably more impactful than the reproductions, but if you cannot attend, the book includes all artwork on display plus (too?) many essays and is a bargain. PDF of all wall text and the "guided tour" audio by Sally Mann are available from the museum website.

I saw it at the Peabody Essex Museum, and have the book too. I think the book has some great images, a lot of the "Analysis" is the typical art crowd pontification (some of it BS), though there is some decent writing in there. Sally's own book (Hold Still) is far better, if you are looking for interesting writing about her work.

The show is worth seeing, no doubt. Great prints, well presented. It's so nice to see them in person after seeing them in books for years. Some of her later stuff I don't find as interesting or technically accomplished as her earlier work, but it is still worth viewing.

I may not be able to get to those locations.

Hold Still is a good book.

I just ordered the Exhibition book as 1st time customer with 20% discount. $55 now $44 plus $9 ship = $53.

A good deal for the 320 page hardback that now says sold out!

Maybe I got the last of this printing...nah

I bought direct from the Getty and after I bought I tried to buy again and the Getty site said sold out.

My 'nah' was supposed to be making a joke of being sold out as I know they will print on demand.

And now I see I could have bought the book from Amazon for way less!

I take "Sold out" to mean "sold out from the publisher", not a particular store.

You are saying that if there is demand, there will reprint, but that's not a given, there has to be enough demand for an entire reprint, since this is not "print on demand". Confused yet ?.

At least you got the satisfaction of supporting a museum, and one with free admission.

The Sally Mann exhibition is a travelling show for another year.

Selling books to meet that demand is part of the profit. Editions, or print on demand.

Did you read that many print on demand printers could not meet the demand over Christmas? Book shortage!

I love buying Art Exhibition tomes (books) as they are usually comprehensive in scope.

I have quite a collection of Art Tomes to put on my coffee table.

    I have yours too.
