    Brett Weston safelight

    Hi folks,

I received this safelight from a photographer who knew Brett Weston
Do you think "Pyromania" is a reference to Pyro process used by Brett Weston ?

I can't answer your question but I'll give you $5 for the safelight.

    Yes, and this:

Years ago, I was on several photo/camping trips with Brett and my father. Brett liked to refer to himself as a "Pyromaniac", for his love of both the developer and roaring campfires. We had some pretty good blazes, always where there was no danger of them getting out of control, coaxed by a bit of Brett's stove kerosene. They were a welcome event when we camped on the eastern side of the Sierra in the dead of winter, sometimes with temperatures below zero.

The film (DVD) by Art Wright has the "Pyromaniac" in action, both film and fire.

    Thanks Merg,
I read your bio by Eric Biggerstaff and I watched your portfolios I'm impressed
When you were "Photographing with Brett California, 1971" I was 10 years old in France, close to Paris. Under the stairs of my house, with a simple curtain, a red lamp and a wooden light box made by my father, I made prints 6x6 per direct contact. I discovered the magic of the image that appears in the developer, it never left me

I just bought a copy of that film and loved it. I only wished it were longer.

    Hi Ron,

Yes, longer would have been nice, but at least we have something. It is the only film of Brett.

I have attached a page of background to the film from the original manuscript for my book. I deleted it from the book due to space limitations.

    Best,

    Merg

I love the film that Art made. Need to watch it again.
