So much of the interpretation depends on where the leaves are at top left. They could be near the same plane as the man, or not. If swing was used, there would be a gradient in focus across the grass, and I don't see that. Without swing, and reverse (upward tilt), then I would expect more of the upper foliage to be in focus.

The photo quality is so low, it is hard to get much beyond a guess. I wonder why reverse tilt and swing, or any odd combination of movements, would be used in such a scene, and come up with an odd and distracting field of focus. But that's photography, of course.

Well, to me, leaves are at top left are way closer to the camera, but also the base of both trees are way sharper than the upper parts, indicating that the plane is tilted.

To me there is no doubt...

I'd say any tilt was very minimal, probably none at all. Just shallow depth of field from a wide aperture.

With that in mind, I frequently place a focusing target in the composition to check DOF and plane of focus by moving it around.

There are only three types of mounting flanges; too big, too small and wrong thread!

shot wide open .. not much in the movment department ..
    ==

    rather than writing him ...

why not stick some film or paper in a film holder
and make a similar exposure using a 150 or 250mm lens and fiddle around
until you see what you want in the ground glass and take it..
a lot of what people do now isn't even camera movements
but photoshoppery ... or easily take a 35mm exposure and adjust
the enlarging surface and lens plane and do the same thing ..
anything can happen these days ..

He uses a 135mm Xenotar and shoots pretty wide open.

    A possibility ! Thanks.
Technically and artistically wise, comments on a virtual on screen digital photo, is not like commenting on a true real photograph in ones hand!
We usually forget this fact because of the functional(tree, man, drink, grass, etc...) representation of both, are the same.
Each product from each medium will retain the best truly info, if represented by a tool from the same medium.
For discussion and knowledge exchange purposes, no matter which medium is the photo from, as long as it presented with "true" information.
    Just another 2c opinion.

The generosity of spirit in this forum is great, its warmly appreciated.
