Re: New source for lens flanges

As I mentioned in the original post, he's very friendly and is easy to talk to. I am not in a position to comment on his pricing - that's between him and his customers - but it's easy enough to email him and explain what you are looking for. Also, I found his work to be very period correct. The flanges I'd seen from some of his competitors were CNC'd and didn't have the appropriate hand-crafted look. They seemed far too modern to fit appropriately on a 19th/early 20th century lens. I think that his prices will be competitive, but I'd pay extra for a more period-correct piece.

Any "flange" contact is great. It really is a problem area for us who have large lenses (more than about 750g) and who are not confident about using Universal iris mounts for these larger (and longer!) lenses. Thanks!

Given the original post to facebook, and the follow-up here to his email, I say that beginning with the facebook reference worked for the best for all of us. See how it works?

Ending with good news, about 28 years ago the Late S. Grimes made me a flange for an obscure lens with a comment, "I contoured the flange to be the same as the original." It is beautiful. I do not know if his successors have the same knowledge.

Maybe, if he can machine a flange to order, he could machine other LF camera parts? I'll keep his contact info in case I need it.

A price list is almost impossible to create/maintain.

Most items are one-offs with particular requirements.

I make flanges, lensboards, etc, but only quote to order.

Leigh, I take your point. However, see, for example http://www.skgrimes.com/products/adapters

    Dan,

SK Grimes is a large company with many employees, doing a large volume of work.
That's a very different situation from a single individual doing onesie-twosie orders.
