Identifying a Carl Zeiss Jena Lens

    Hello,

I got my hands on a Carl Zeiss Jena Protar lens and I made some research about it, but I think I haven't found the right model and year so far.
That's why I registered here and I hope, you guys can help me with that.
I'm not into photography at all, so I have not one clue of any technical stuff regarding it.

So the lens is a Protar as mentioned, 1:18, R 212mm.
The Nr. is 112681 and there is (the patent?) no. DRP 193439 on it.

From what I found out, it should be a Series V lens, but what makes me unsure is, that there is a "II" stamped on the side next to the scale. Also, I couldn't find a single auction or picture that comes even close to the lens.

The lens is in a good condition I guess, only the glass is blurry, but looks like it can be cleaned.

I attach some pictures, maybe someone has some information about it.

    Thanks and Cheers,
    Niklas

Size no.5, Series V, made first as early as 1891!

Between 90 and 110 deg. coverage. Made for the 24x30cm plate size. Lens diameter is 17.5mm. A very popular size and sold well. No room for a shutter inside in these designs!
You will have to make a "translation" of the mm aperture diameter scale to F values!

Zeiss made lenses in different brass mounts for the various camera types that were emerging and stamped the lens in Roman numerals (I, II, III etc) to identify which mount it was.

Great, thank you for the detailed information!

How would I do this "translation"?

Translation? f/number will be approximately 212/mm indicated on the aperture scale. I say approximately because the number on the scale should be the diaphragm's diameter and the f/number is really focal length/entrance pupil's diameter.

I won't put too much effort in understanding what you wrote, since I'm going to sell the lens anyways.

But thanks, think I have enough information now!
