    Here's a bit of nostalgia...

. . Wishing... Vancouver, Washington by Reinhold S., on Flickr

Sixty-five years ago, my brother and I would watch airplanes flying from the tallgrass prairie near Chicago.
We were always wishing for a ride... later we both became pilots.
The sound of round engines overhead still makes our eyes look to the sky above.

    # ACAQ 057... A Stearman prepares to take off from the historic Evergreen Flying Service field (now just a collection of condos).

    Thanks, Reinhold. Nice shot.

That's the first 4-6-6-4 I've ever seen. Quite a monster.

    Here's a unique bird from the 1930s...

This Ford Trimotor, (they were also known as a "Tin Goose") visited historic Evergreen Field, Vancouver, Washington.
A total of 199 Ford Trimotors were built between 1926 and 1933. Well over 100 airlines of the world flew the Ford Trimotor.

If you want to shop around for something special for somebody nice, check these out:

Beechcraft Model 17 "Staggerwing" (ca 1940), and Lincoln Continental Cabriolet (1941).

The Staggerwing is a fast executive plane, considered one of the most beautiful airplanes of it's period. If you remember seeing newscasts by John Cameron Swayze, you may have seen him flying his Staggerwing to a news site.

My pappy retired from the Santa Fe, back in '60.

After WWII, he took us on tours around Western America (drawn by heavy steam locomotives), using free railroad employee passes.
