A4 - Sir Nigel Gresley - approaching Highley Station doing a token swap.
Spring 2022 Steam Gala, Severn Valley Railway - UK

Tokens are the method used to ensure only one train at a time can enter a section of single track.
The signal box operator (standing track side in the photo) must release a token to allow a train to enter a particular section of the track - and then no other tokens can be released for that section of the track until the previously released token has been clocked back in.

For what its worth - Sir Nigel Gresley is the fastest post WW2 steam train - clocked at 112 mph during regular service (May 1959)

This Cessna Caravan will do a kamikaze dive to the airstrip, land and start loading the next run before the last person of the previous run reaches the ground.
