Selling 4x5 Gear - Seeking Advise

I had a cambo legend 8x10 that would not sale so I decided to part it out and I actually got more selling it like that than I would have selling the whole camera , I sold the 8x10 back, both standards, rail and bellows to different people

About 8 years ago I purchased a used Cambo 4x5 view camera with rail, 2 lenses and related gear. I used the gear for a short time but now wish to sell it. What is the best strategy for doing that? Sell it as a kit or split it up? Leave it on consignment at a local dealer, sell to a used camera specialist like KEH or Used Photo Pro, sell on eBay, post here or on other forums? Some other option? Where am I likely to get the best value? What do you think are the most important pros and cons of these options that I should consider?

Also at ebay you are to obtain top dollar if you have a good reputation record, 99.8% and good return policy. Ebay is good for ebay and for professional sellers

A lot of Cambo so cheap 4x5 are for sale, 5x7 and 8x10 are way less common.

I you have a job probably you are to obtain more money working some additional hours than seeking top dollar for the 4x5


Post it in LFPF, offer a price for each lens, for the camera and a discount for all at one time, at ebay price -25% to -35% and spend little time.

Pere brings up some good points.

Sometimes Ebay is better and sometimes the forum is better. It depends upon the Seller and/or the item and of course how the stars are aligned at the time.

This is all great advice! I don't expect to get much for the 4x5 view camera and will likely split up the gear. I especially like the idea of offering a discount to buy all the gear together. I will check sold item prices on eBay for the lenses and accessories. I will also see what the used gear retailers are selling the items for. I guess Craigs List is another option. After I get my prices determined I will offer them on this forum and perhaps Apug too. Thanks to all who replied!

I've sold two monorails on Craigslist to people who were looking for them. I've actually sold quite a bit of camera gear on Craigslist and I've never listed anything on there.

Cambo Legend and Master are probably best sold as sets, as they are quality as opposed to the other Cambo cameras.
The 4x5 Sinar Norma is best sold as parts. I did a speculative purchase of a Norma set years ago and covered my outlay instantaneously with the sale of the Copal/Sinar shutter.

On eBay I've been watching lenses for 4x5 for months, and I've seen many high-priced 'Buy It Now' items just sit and then get re-listed. At the same price!! (?) Where do those listers get their prices?

I have watched items for weeks, not sell, only to be relisted at a higher price and end up selling...?...I guess timing is everything.

I always say, "Who is looking, when?".

I've listed items that didn't sell only to relist them at a $50.00 lower price point. Then buyers bid them up and they end up selling for more than I listed them in the first place!

John, good advice but that's the only way to buy anything anywhere!
