The Most Beautiful Photography Book I've Ever Seen

THIS LAND, An American Portrait, by Jack Spencer.
After ordering this book months ago, and frankly forgot all about it, suddenly Amazon shipped it, and they even cut the price from $45 down to $23.
I was not familiar with Jack Spencer, and Googling doesn't bring up any personal information other than he was born in Mississippi in 1951 and practices his craft in Nashville, Tennessee.
His method of working is certainly not obvious to me -- he could be shooting anything from 35mm to ULF, although there are some hints from images including what appears to be the edges of Polaroid 55. Does anybody out there in LF land have any more information?

Just looking at a few of the images, they look like some stuff I have done in Photoshop - like the Polaroid 55 border and other textured borders to make it look almost like a print from an old glass plate negative - I have done that in PS, but don't know if that is what he has employed, but from what I have seen I would guess heavily manipulated digital images...just a guess.

99% sure they are not large format, so this thread should be moved to the Lounge.

The Jack Spencer book "Native Soil" was a big hit a number of years ago. I have it and it can be bought elsewhere. He does beautiful work.

Interesting interview. I think he is right. We are so caught up in our everyday lives that we don't see what's right in front of us.
