    2016 Ground glass sources

Where is a good source for ground glass today?

I have a Shen-Hao with a wista screen/fresnel. I would like to get a plain screen. Maybe with a grid.

I know this comes up periodically.. but people making it seem to come and go. So i thought it would be good for an up-to-date list.

Surplus Shed has 4x5 http://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/l1034.html and 5x7 http://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/l14638.html ground glass. They don't specify the exact dimensions of the GG, but one could get the larger one and cut it to fit. I scribe grids on ground glass with a sharp tool such as a needle held in a pin vise. This leaves a unobtrusive bright line instead of the heavier black line of some factory ground glasses.

I've ordered some screens from Steve Hopf in recent years, and they've performed very well.

He also sells on ebay, under the username "photofixation"

eBay has a number of GG sellers, Steve Hopf is there, a guy from the Boston area always has plain and gridded screens, and there are a number of Chinese sellers offering a variety of different options.
    There's lots to choose from.

From Hopf`s site, I read: "The resulting Ultra Fine finish is is extremely fine grained with excellent diffusion and light transmission or "brightness". The fine grain makes for good detail in the highlights and shadow areas, and the great diffusion keeps flares and hotspots minimal and allows for sharp focusing". I must say these screens look really nice and love the fact that he offers them in borosilicate.

IME, fine grained GGs are really great for detail but I wonder if this really have a noticeable effect on the hot spot... I have both fine and coarse GGs on my cameras, and I have the idea (probably wrong) that this characteristic is almost irrelevant in regard to the hot spot, but if any, I`d say it gets worse on my fine grained screens.

To those who actually use this GGs, do you actually notice a real difference with "ordinary" ones? I`m tempted to try.
